Event catering runs on a queue rather than a table service: food is handed over in seconds and eaten standing up. Large-format clamshells — 1500ml at 228×228×76mm, 42g — let one hand do the work of two.
Feeding a queue without a table
A guest holding a drink has one hand free. A 228mm square box with a 76mm wall balances on that hand because the base is broad and the rim stiff enough not to fold. Smaller formats demand a second hand or a tray, and trays at a standing event become litter within minutes. The footprint also sits on a barrel top or a ledge without sliding.
Graze boxes and sharing plates
The flat 1500ml body takes a spread of cheese, charcuterie, fruit and bread without the components migrating, because the base is one continuous plane. For a table centrepiece, two or three boxes pushed together read as a platter and clear away in a single movement. Divided versions work better when each guest receives a set portion rather than serving themselves.
How many cases for 500 guests
At one box per guest plus a margin, 550 boxes is the target. The 1500ml body packs 100 per sleeve in twos, 200 per carton, so three cartons cover the count. Smaller 900ml boxes pack 125 per sleeve in twos, 250 per carton, so the same guest count needs three cartons there too, with more pieces left for staff meals. Clear messaging on disposal
Guests sort packaging in a hurry, often in poor light. Sugarcane fibre goes into food waste or commercial compost where the venue provides a stream, and into general waste where it does not. Printing a short instruction on the lid does more good than a sign at the exit. Read what the labels mean before wording it. Keep the wording to one line that fits the lid.

Can the same box serve hot and cold courses? Yes for normal service; tell us the dishes so we can confirm suitability.
Is there a smaller sharing format? The 1200ml 8-inch body at 220×203mm is the next size down.
Is custom printing realistic for a one-off event? Share the date and quantity and we will tell you what is feasible.
