Reheating is the question that decides whether a fibre bowl works in your operation, and it is a grade question rather than a yes-or-no one. This page explains what to establish before you specify, and how to test a bowl against your actual reheat cycle.
Why “microwavable” needs a definition
A bowl that survives 60 seconds of reheating and a bowl that survives four minutes are not the same product. Temperature, duration, moisture and fat content all affect how the fibre behaves. When you ask a supplier whether a bowl is microwavable, the useful follow-up question is: at what power, for how long, with what dish.
Establish the cycle, then the grade
Write down what your operation actually does: microwave wattage, typical reheat time, whether the food is frozen or chilled at the start, and whether the bowl goes in covered. That four-part answer is what we quote against. Without it, any answer is a guess.
How to test it yourself
Take a sample, fill it with your wettest and your fattiest dish, and run your real cycle twice. Look for four things: the base going soft, the rim losing shape, moisture wicking through the wall, and the bowl becoming too hot to lift. If all four hold, the bowl is right for that dish.
When reheat is not the answer
Some menus are better served by holding food hot rather than reheating it in the pack. In those cases the bowl only needs to survive holding, which is an easier requirement and often a cheaper specification.
Questions buyers ask
Can I put it in the oven? Do not assume it — state the appliance and temperature and we will tell you what is possible.
Does reheating affect the compostability claim? The material is unchanged by a normal reheat cycle; the bowl still goes into the same collection.
Can you supply a grade for a specific cycle? Send the four parameters above with your inquiry.
See the bowl range or describe your reheat cycle and we will match the grade.
