A divided plate is a portioning tool. The 225mm and 254mm rounds are moulded with two or three wells so hot and cold, wet and dry, or main and side arrive separate without a second container.
Two wells on a 225mm round
MG-YP09−2 splits the 9-inch plate into two wells at the same 15g and the same 225mm diameter. The division suits a main plus one side, or a hot component beside a salad that must not wilt. The carton is 46.3×36.5×24.8cm for 500 pieces — 1.8mm wider and 1.7cm deeper than the plain 9-inch case, because the divider adds height to the stack.
Three wells and the carton trade-off
MG-YP09−3 adds a third well to the same body. Its case is 46.5×23.5×35.5cm, narrower and substantially taller than the two-well version, because plates stack on edge in a different pattern. If your shelf is shallow but tall, the three-well case fits where the two-well case does not. Check before assuming the cases are interchangeable. Both cases hold 500 pieces, so the difference is shelf geometry alone.
The 10-inch three-well
MG-YP10−3 puts three wells on the 254mm body at 21g, sharing the 53.5×35×28cm case with the plain 10-inch plate. That is the largest divided format in the range, and the one used for a full dinner service where the guest expects distinct components rather than a mixed plate. Its wells are wider than the 9-inch version, which suits a carvery portion and two vegetables. The 21g body also keeps the divider rigid when the plate is carried loaded.
Menu logic for divided plates
Dividers work when the kitchen plates to the well rather than to the plate. Staff fill each section to a consistent level, and the portion stays repeatable across shifts. They work badly when a dish is a single composed item, because the divider interrupts the presentation. Match the format to the dish, not to the menu as a whole. Plating workflow is discussed in packaging for restaurants.
Questions buyers ask
Can the wells be different sizes? The moulds are fixed ratios; custom sizes are available if volume supports tooling.
Does the divider weaken the plate? It is formed in the same pressing and adds rigidity along the centre line.
Are divided plates available square? Compartments currently run on the round 9-inch and 10-inch bodies.
See the 9-inch plate for the plain version or ask which split suits your menu.
