Event volume is counted per guest per course, and the plate is the item that runs out first because it is used once and cleared immediately. Getting the count and the stack height right is most of the planning.
Plates per guest, not per table
A three-course standing reception usually needs two plates per guest, plus a margin for dropped and second-helping plates. For 800 guests that is 1,600 plates. Because the 225mm and 254mm plates pack 125 per sleeve in fours — 500 per carton — the count converts to three or four cases depending on the diameter mix rather than to a vague pallet quantity.
Stack height in a van
Five hundred plates in a carton is compact, but the cases have depth: 46.5×34.8×24.8cm for the 9-inch and 53.5×35×28cm for the 10-inch. Loading by course, with starter plates nearest the door, saves a second trip. Ovals pack 500 per carton too, but their cases are long and narrow — 39.8×27.5×44.5cm and 35.5×33×53cm — so they stand on end rather than lying flat.
Mixing rounds and squares on a buffet
A buffet reads better when shapes vary by station: rounds for plated courses, squares for trays and boards. The square plates start at 160mm and run to 260mm, and their straight edges tile against a buffet surface without gaps. Guests notice the difference even when they cannot name it. Squares also stack better on a trestle, because there is no curved edge to roll against. Keep the mix to two shapes so the clearing team is not guessing.
Clearance and waste at the end
Clearing 800 plates in twenty minutes needs a route, not just a bin. Fibre plates stack back into the cartons they arrived in, which makes a compact removal at the end of the night possible. Where the venue separates food waste, plates go in with the scrapings; where it does not, they leave with general waste. See packaging for catering and events.
Questions buyers ask
Can we order plates and bowls on one delivery? Yes, tell us the mix and we will plan the load.
Are compartment plates suitable for events? Yes, they suit set menus where components are portioned in advance.
Do you supply plates in smaller case counts? Cartons are fixed at 500 for the medium and large rounds; the 7-inch case holds 1,000.
Send the guest count and courses and we will convert them into cases.
